So I was walking the dog and I thought about dice and how fun they are. I love rolling dice. Just pick up a few and roll them. The tactile feel is pretty awesome. So I want to roll dice. How do you make that even more fun? I propose this:
Alignment Dice:
What you need:
Dice, coloured dice is always better, but you can do without.
A set of bowls.
Glass beads, two distinct colours is better.
How you do it:
You divide the dice up into two pools of equal size. If you are using a level based RPG (you know what I am talking about) then have an equal amount of dice to the level. So it matches the level of power you are dealing with.
The pool on your left is the
Villain Dice, while the dice on your right are the
Hero Dice.
You tell your players that they can use the dice when and where they want to. Of course they can only use
Hero Dice to commit Good acts and the
Villain Dice to have fun. If there are multiple rolls per character they have to divide up their dice, so they could roll 1 dice to attack and 5 dice to damage. The dice can help to cause a critical success or avoid a critical failure.
For every roll using either set of dice you get a point. If the player uses a
Hero Dice you, the GM, get a
Villain Point, but if they use the
Villain Dice you of course get a
Hero Point. You can use the points the same way the players use the alignment dice, one point translates into five dice of the point you use:
Villain Point: Five Villain Dice
Hero Point: Five Hero Dice
You can tell your players that you are adding these points. Or not. Its up to you. Same rules apply to you as they do to the players.
Is this at all useful? Please leave a comment.
